*Brooklyn High School Principal*

Chosen for this year’s first Staff Spotlight is Mr. Jean Capacetti, first-year principal at Brooklyn High School. Mr. Capacetti previously was the principal of Northwood Middle School in the Elyria City Schools, and before that an assistant principal at Midview Local Schools. Something interesting about Mr. Capacetti is that he served as a Spanish teacher for 13 years.
Q. What made you want to become a principal?
A. “I wanted to become a principal pretty soon after becoming a teacher. I knew I could have a bigger impact.”
Q. What are some goals you have for this school year?
A. “I have three main goals. One, create a phone-free culture. Two, improve school spirit with students and staff. Three, increase student collaboration and student response frequency in the classrooms.”
Q. How do you promote student engagement and school pride?
A. “Well, last Friday, we had a huge pep rally in the morning at 5:00. We also had a tailgate before the game for those students who had perfect attendance so far. I am looking for a junior or senior to help lead the student section at football games, too.”
Q. What do you want people to know about this school that they may not already know?
A. “It is going to be the best year ever!”
Q. What was the most significant life lesson ever taught to you?
A. “That’s a tough one. Life has taught me a lot of lessons. The most important one is that people you love will pass on. It’s not worth staying mad about things. Treat other people with love and work through issues.”
Q. What is your favorite vacation spot?
A. “My parents’ house in Florida.”
Q. What food can you always find yourself eating?
A. “Strawberry Uncrustables.”
Q. What do you like to do outside of school?
A. “Be a dad to my three kids (Eve, Aria, and Carlos). I also Salsa dance, play guitar, and help my wife with anything she needs.”
