Finally, sports is back!
As the Fall teams are now in full swing, success in football, soccer, and volleyball has been difficult to come by to this point; however, small victories can do wonders when it comes to confidence and growth.
The beginning of this season has been a struggle for the varsity volleyball team. After an 0-5 start, the Lady Hurricanes were looking to notch their first victory as they hosted the 4-2 Beachwood Bison a week ago today.
In their first set, the Lady Canes played well, but the visiting Bison pulled away by a 25-16 final score.
Set two is when the Hurricanes built some confidence and went back-and-forth with Beachwood, falling by a razor-thin margin of 26-24. More on this set soon.
In the third and soon-to-be final set of the evening, the Lady Canes ran out of gas and fell 25-7. Beachwood’s three-set sweep dropped the Lady Canes to 0-6, still searching for their first victory.

Standout players for the Hurricanes were sophomore Reem Raad and senior Niema Davis. Raad saved a lot of balls from touching the floor with quick thinking and digging. Davis played well by receiving the serves with great defense and blocks at the net.
Another bright side, set two will hopefully be a springboard for this young team as they continue to learn the game, grow in their skills, and develop the necessary chemistry and confidence to be successful. There are still many opportunities and opponents remaining, and we wish the girls nothing but the best.
On a positive note, the junior varsity team did indeed beat Beachwood in a best-of-three series, 2-1. This win gave the team their first victory of the season with many more wins, hopefully, in the very near future.
Well done, girls.
Both the varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams return to action tonight as they host the Richmond Heights Spartans.
