Brooklyn, we are back and better than ever! The staff at The Return of the Eye hopes that everyone’s Summer went well and that Hurricane Nation is ready for a successful 2026-2027 school year.
Now, it’s time for the weekly Senior Spotlight.
Chosen for this year’s first Senior Spotlight is Braelyn Gardner. Braelyn describes himself as strong, funny, and courageous. He has been at Brooklyn High School for two years and works part-time at Culver’s. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball, his favorite and main sport. After graduation, he plans to continue playing basketball while studying Sports Medicine. A fun fact about Braelyn is that one of his biggest accomplishments during high school was receiving a Division II basketball offer.
Q: In what ways do you think you’ve changed since your freshman year?
A: “I’m a lot less shy.”
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: “I want to travel the world.”
Q: What is your biggest accomplishment during high school?
A: “I got a D2 offer.”
Q: What class did you enjoy more than you expected?
A: “Latin II at Iggy (St. Ignatius).”
Q: What is the funniest thing that has happened to you at school?
A: “When I broke my foot and had to use crutches, I fell in front of, like, the whole school.”
Q: What is something you’re proud of for overcoming?
A: “I used to be scared of anything that wasn’t home, so I always stayed at home.”
Q: Where do you enjoy traveling?
A: “I love going to Pennsylvania for basketball.”
Q: Out of your entire school career, what teacher has been your biggest inspiration and/or influence?
A: “Mr. Wimbiscus. He was my freshman Modern World History teacher when I went to St. Ignatius.”
