School’s Out, News Drought

May 26, 2026

We trust that everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day weekend and paid tribute to those who served for the freedoms that we experience today.

Yesterday was the 159th anniversary of Memorial Day, and each year, Brooklyn hosts a parade to remember and honor those who have passed away in the armed services.

The early morning dew foreshadowed the gray, calm skies that were present throughout the parade and ceremony; however, the sky beautifully opened up in the afternoon with a breezy 70 degrees for reflection and family barbecues.

Memorial Day is always a sad day, but is a beautiful reminder that our loved ones can serve more than just our families and communities and can protect an entire nation when they put their lives on the line.

To all of those who did not come back, we are eternally-grateful for your sacrifices.

Moving along, with graduation less than 100 hours away, the Class of 2026 has spent the last four years at Brooklyn High School and cannot be more excited to receive their diplomas. Please come to commencement this Friday at the stadium (6:00) and congratulate these seniors on achieving this milestone.

Additionally, Prom took place last Friday at Windows on the River, and it was a great success. A big shout-out to Mrs. Holko and the prom committee for putting on such a wonderful and memorable event. We would also like to congratulate Adam Cowper and Lauren Atanacio for winning prom king and queen.

To conclude, we are sad to see our cherished principal Mr. Larson resign as our leader at the end of this school year. However, we would like to send a congratulations to him with his new central office post within the district. Mr. Larson, thank you for everything you did for the students and staff. Even though you will still be in the building, we will miss you.

This will be the final news article for the 2025-2026 school year, so thank you for being a part of this year-long journey.

Here is the final schedule of the school year:

  • May 27: Senior Clap-out & Graduation Practice
  • May 29: Graduation
  • June 4: Last Day of School

Have an amazing final week of May, fellow Hurricanes.
