On Tuesday, the boys soccer team played a heated game against the Cuyahoga Heights Red Wolves. Trying to notch their first victory of the year, the Hurricanes were poised and ready.
The visiting Red Wolves came in with a record of 2-7 and the Hurricanes 0-10-1.
The game started off slow, but as it went on, the competitiveness from both squads was on full display.
From the opening whistle, both teams played aggressively as the defenses kept the other team from getting too comfortable with shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Benjamin Denovchek made sure to keep the game 0-0. Unfortunately, the visiting goaltender did the exact same as the first half ended in a 0-0 tie.
The second half continued to be an intense battle as both teams fought to get the ball and score the potential winning goal. Sadly, the only goal of the game came late in the contest from the Red Wolves with not much time remaining.
To say this game was a Defense Struggle would be a major understatement. Nonetheless, the Hurricanes fought until the final whistle but came up a little short in earning their first victory.
Spotlight players for the Hurricanes were Denovchek and sophomores Kit Vandine and Cristian Garcia.
Denovchek stood out on the field by working really hard to defend the goal until the final whistle. Not only because of his determination, his bright pink jersey made him impossible to miss, too.
Vandine showed great effort and continued to push forward despite the score. He stayed determined and focused from start-to-finish.
Garcia played very well on offense and defense, standing out by repeatedly using his head to make important plays and keep the ball moving.
Hang in there, boys. The victories are coming!
