For the first time since 2018, our beloved Cleveland Cavaliers earned a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals. Vibes were high, and fans had reserved-optimism. However, after a four-game sweep courtesy of the New York Knicks, the Cavs have many questions to answer during this offseason as to how to turn this franchise into an NBA Finals contender.

First, let’s recap their playoff run.

During the first round, it took the Cavs seven games to oust the Toronto Raptors. They started off with a two-game lead, but then the Raptors came back to win games three and four. The Cavs came back home for game five and won but lost game six in Toronto. Fortunately, game seven was in Cleveland, and the Wine and Gold finished the job with the final score of 114-102, advancing to the second round.

Round two had a similar script as the Cavs went to seven games again, this time against the top-seeded Detroit Pistons. The Pistons took the first two games, but the Cavs won games three and four. Cleveland stole a road win in Motown in game five to take a 3-2 series lead but then laid an egg at home in game six. Going back to Detroit for the decisive game seven, the Cavs steamrolled the Pistons 125-94 to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.

In the Eastern Conference Finals, the Cavaliers blew a 22-point, fourth lead in game one and never recovered, leading to the embarrassing, four-game sweep.

  • Game 1: Knicks 115, Cavs 104
  • Game 2: Knicks 109, Cavs 93
  • Game 3: Knicks 121, Cavs 108
  • Game 4: Knicks 130, Cavs 93

Critics say that the Cavs improved by getting to the Eastern Conference Finals, while others conclude that they did not show growth because they could not win a single game in the ECF. What do you say, successful season or not?

Regardless, there is a lot of uncertainty going forward, yet we are excited to see how everything plays out.

Tough ending for the Cavaliers, but hey, at least we have the Guardians, right?
