January 27, 2026

With the weather being so “un”predictable, students and staff are thoroughly enjoying the snow/cold days. Sledding, building snowmen, and the nonstop shoveling has kept everyone occupied; however, the news must keep going, and there is important information to bring forth for this week.

To begin, with the days in January winding down, Student Council has announced its annual Winter Olympics that will take place in February. These are a series of games that volunteers play in front of the student body. This year’s competition includes Bobsledding, Speed Skate Relay, Curling, and Hockey Knockout. There will be volunteers from grades 8-12 and staff participating, so please, check your grade level Google Classroom to sign up. The BHS staff refuses to lose, so these games should be very entertaining.

Next, did someone mention Malley’s chocolate? In the Junior/Senior Google Classrooms is the upcoming Malley’s Chocolate Prom Fundraiser. Students can sell Milk Chocolate Pretzel, Milk Chocolate Almond, Milk Chocolate Crunch, and the Cleveland Bar (Solid Milk Chocolate). Each box has 36 bars, and every box sold is $10 off of your prom ticket. Make sure to sign up before this Friday, January 30, to reserve your boxes.

Next week (February 2-6) will be Spirit Week for the high school. The daily themes are as follows:

  • Manager Monday – Dress like a coach.
  • Champion Tuesday – Wear any medals or wear gold, silver, or bronze.
  • Wednesday Winter Whiteout – Wear white.
  • Thursday Favorite Winter Sports Team – Wear a Winter sports team jersey or apparel.
  • Friday Color Wars – Wear your grade level colors.

Following Spirit Week, February 9-13 will be dedicated to Heritage Week, so please stay tuned for more information on how this week will be laid out.

Here is the upcoming schedule for the end of January and early February.

  • January 27: Winter Olympics Meeting (Postponed)
  • January 31: Power of the Pen Field Trip
  • February 5: Lorain County Community College Field Trip
  • February 10: Cleveland State University Field Trip
  • February 12: Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Field Trip

Have an outstanding week, Hurricanes. Stay warm!
