Chosen for this week’s Staff Spotlight is Mrs. Amber Cannon. This is currently her third year working in the Brooklyn Lower School. Before coming to Brooklyn, she taught kindergarten in Lorain for eight years. When she is not focused on school, she can be found doing activities with her family and vacationing. A fun fact about her is that she loves the color pink.

Q: What is the most interesting aspect of teaching second graders?

A: “I love the lightbulb moment in the middle to the end of second grade. They can get multiple thoughts on paper and write multiple paragraphs. It is just cool to see their little brains work.”

Q: Have you ever thought about teaching another grade?

A: “I would go back to kindergarten if it ever came up because I loved kindergarten, but second grade is a different kind of love.”

Q: If you could give one piece of advice to the students in Brooklyn, what would it be?

A: “Work hard, be honest, and just do the best you can; do not give up.”

Q: Where did you go to college?

A: “I went to Ashland University. I did the partnership through Lorain County Community College, and it was convenient that I was able to stay in Lorain County and still go to the school.”

Q: Do you prefer breakfast or lunch?

A: “Lunch! I love salad and tacos. That kind of food is better than breakfast food.”

Q: What is your favorite soda?

A: “Diet Coke. I just love the crisp taste of it.”

Q: Do you prefer white chocolate or milk chocolate?

A: “Milk chocolate because it is just my favorite.”

Q: Cook at home or go out to eat?

A: “I like both. It just depends on the occasion. I do love a good date night out, but I do love to cook at home, too.”

Thank you for letting us interview you, Mrs. Cannon. It was a pleasure getting to know more about you. Enjoy the final month of this school year and the Summer ahead with your family.
