Coming off of a 21-10 victory against Bedford last Saturday to notch their first win of the season, the softball team was looking to make it two straight yesterday as they faced off against winless Bard Early College.
In the first inning, the Hurricanes got multiple runners on base but could not convert. The second inning was much quicker, as they went down in order. Similar to the second, in the third inning, they went down in order again and were held scoreless through the third.
With Bard having an early lead in the fourth inning, the Hurricanes finally got their scoring started with multiple singles and stolen bases. They continued their rally with four straight walks and more stolen bases, plating eight runs in the bottom half of the frame.
The Hurricanes scored four more runs in the fifth off of more walks, singles, and stolen bases (without the catcher even throwing down). They slowly chipped away at Bard’s early lead as now, they only trailed by one, 13-12.
In the sixth inning, Bard’s pitcher could not seem to find a rhythm as she walked more batters. Time for two different relief pitchers that the Lady Canes took advantage of, scoring twice more.
Continuing their onslaught in the sixth inning, sophomore Jayrine Camacho Ramos hit an inside-the-park grand slam, which sent momentum in favor of the Lady Canes, extending their lead to 19-13. They scored two more runs to finish off the frame, crossing home plate nine times.
In the seventh and final inning, the Hurricanes were three outs away from their second straight victory, and junior Audrena Vega shut down the Raptors to secure the win.
Final Score: Brooklyn 21, Bard Early College 14

With their second straight victory, the Hurricanes improved their record to 2-5. Next up, the Lady Canes will travel to Trinity today for a 5:00 start, looking for three straight.
Additionally, the baseball team will look to stop their five-game losing skid today as Bedford comes to town. First pitch is at 4:45.
Go Canes!
