Snapshot of Cleveland Sports

The last two weeks, we previewed both the girls and boys basketball teams. For this week, we will take a break from the Winter Hurricanes sports previews to provide a snapshot of Cleveland sports.

Starting off with the Browns, they currently stand at 5-3, coming off their first shutout win since December 16, 2007.  Even though the Arizona Cardinals are in full tank-mode, a 27-0 blanking of the red birds bodes well for confidence.

The five wins were over the Bengals, Titans, Colts, Cardinals, and even an upset victory against the 5-0 (at the time) 49ers.

However, the Browns have lost a few key players this season such as the best running back in the NFL, Nick Chubb. Right tackle Jack Conklin is out for the season, and left tackle Jedrick Wills, Jr. is out for a minimum of six weeks.

This Sunday is a major test as the Browns face the 7-2 Baltimore Ravens, who are currently leading the stacked AFC North.

If the season ended right now, the Browns would be the sixth seed in the AFC and would face the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Go Browns!

Next up are the Cavaliers, who are not off to the best start, currently standing at 3-5.

However, they have had some impressive wins against the Nets, Knicks, and Warriors.

All-Star Donovan Mitchell has been the leader of this young squad, as he has tallied 30.7 PPG, 4.9 RPG, and 5.6 APG.

The Cavs made a few good moves this offseason, signing forward Max Strus, forward Georges Niang, and another forward Ty Jerome to help bolster their depth.

They will look to get it together in their upcoming West Coast trip, as they will battle the Warriors, Kings, and Trail Blazers.

Go Cavs!

Next on the list are the Guardians. After a disappointing season where they finished with a record of 76-86, the Guardians already got to work this offseason.

First, they claimed catcher Christian Bethancourt off of waivers, who hit .225 last season with 11 HRs and 33 RBIs. Next, because longtime manager Terry “Tito” Francona stepped down, the Guardians hired Stephen Vogt as their next manager.

Vogt had a 10-year major league career and spent most of the time with the Oakland Athletics. In his career, he averaged .239 and hit 82 HRs with 313 RBIs.

He is young and inexperienced, but the Guardians’ front office is one of the best in baseball.

The Guardians will likely be busy in free agency, as they will need an outfield power bat to help the middle of their lineup.

Go Guardians!

Lastly, we have the Cleveland Monsters, the AHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Monsters have a record of 6-3-0 and are second in the North Division.

Right wing Trey Fix-Wolansky has led the team in points with four goals and 10 assists. Another leader for the Monsters is defenseman Nick Blankenburg. Blankenburg has tallied three goals and five assists.

The Monsters will look to make the playoffs again with a pretty talented squad after missing out last year.

Go Monsters!

Good luck to all of our Cleveland sports teams. And just a reminder, Pittsburgh still stinks!
