Chosen for this week’s senior spotlight is Santana Sammons. Santana has been in Brooklyn since the fifth grade. He transferred from Cleveland’s Adlai E. Stevenson. Santana plays a key role on both the basketball and track teams. In his free time, he hangs out with his friends and plays basketball.
Q: Do you prefer to be a part of track or basketball?
A: “Both! The reason I like playing basketball is I’ve been playing basketball with my friends all my life, and I really enjoy it. I like running track, too, because it’s an individual sport, and I love running.”
Q: Who are you most grateful for in your life?
A: “I’m most grateful for my dad. He pushes me to work for everything I get in life. Also, he is very supportive of my decisions.”
Q: If you could give any advice to the younger students, what would it be?
A: “If I had to give advice to the younger students, it would be to just be yourself.”
Q: If you could go back and change one thing about your high school career, what would it be?
A: “If I had a chance to change something about my high school career, it would be to stay focused and dedicated to my assignments.”
Q: What is the one sacrifice you would not be willing to make, even if it meant solving all of the world’s problems?
A: “If I had to choose, it would not be giving up my family.”
Q: Do you think high school has prepared you for the real world?
A: “In a way but I feel like the teachers prepared me more than anything.”
Q: What do you plan on doing after high school?
A: “I plan on going to The University of Cincinnati for Exercise Science.”
Q: What has been the highlight of your senior year to this point?
A: “I will definitely say when I won Knockout during the Homecoming assembly.”
Q: What is your ideal appetizer, main course, and dessert?
A: “For my appetizer, I would go with boneless buffalo wings. For my main meal, I would go with a bacon cheeseburger. For dessert, I would like a chocolate milkshake.”
Q: Out of your entire school career, what teacher has been the biggest inspiration and/or influence to you?
A: “My biggest inspiration would be Mr. Holko because he keeps it real with me and gives me good advice for the real world.”
Have a great basketball and track season, Santana. More importantly, have a wonderful senior year.
