Mrs. Jennifer Kiss is a 6th grade interventionist at the Brooklyn School. She is best known for her positivity, patience, and determination when it comes to her students learning and understanding various concepts. Kiss has always made it a point to address the necessary needs of her students in order for them to be productive and successful. She continues to make a great impact on her current students as well as her previous students, making her a perfect choice for this week’s Staff Spotlight.

Q: Where did you grow up?

A: “I grew up, went to school, and still live in Olmsted Falls.”

Q: Where did you go to college?

A: “I went to the University of Toledo for several years. I transferred to and graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College (the name at that time) with a degree in Speech Communication. I also went to Cleveland State University where I did my coursework for my special education license and later received my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction.”

Q: How would you describe your experience of being an interventionist using only three words?

A: “Rewarding, Motivating, and Encouraging.”

Q: What do you like most about being an Interventionist?

A: “I love working with kids. One of my favorite things about being an interventionist is seeing students make growth. I love encouraging and helping students, but I especially enjoy the moments when they realize what they are capable of.”

Q: What subject do you like helping students with the most?

A: “That’s a tough question. I like them all, but I would probably say math. It was my least favorite subject when I was a student, but I actually enjoy helping students learn how to break things down to understand the concepts.”

Q: If you could have any job title, what would it be? Why?

A: “Sports Writer or Photographer: I love sports, writing, and taking pictures. I originally wanted to be a journalism major in college.”

Q: What was the most significant life lesson ever taught to you?

A: “Life is not always fair, but you have to move on and be responsible for your own happiness and opportunities.”

Q: Who inspires you the most?

A: “My mom! She has faced so many challenges throughout her life yet is one of the most positive and giving people I know. She goes out of her way to try and help others and to make people happy.”

Thank you for your time, Mrs. Kiss. And, thank you for always being understanding and for making a positive impact on your students!  You truly represent Hurricane Nation in the best manner possible.
