Under the circumstances that we are in, it is easy to lose track of the people who are the most important and helpful to us. It is always nice to recognize teachers as most of their hard work goes unseen by many.

Today, I celebrate Mr. Jim Verba. Mr. Verba teaches physical science at Brooklyn High School and is currently serving as the Brooklyn City Schools Athletic Director. In previous years, he served as the head girls’ varsity basketball coach. Outside of work, he is the father of two beautiful daughters and a husband to his lovely wife.

I chose to recognize Mr. Verba because a lot of his work is actually not seen. The job of an Athletic Director is not easy. You have to organize, supervise, and monitor multiple sports teams at once and make sure that all the needs of each team is being met. Doing this job takes true dedication and that is something that Mr. Verba has. He is a man of his word and performs his tasks efficiently. He is the epitome of Brooklyn Pride.

Thank you, Mr. Verba, for being an amazing coach and mentor to me and many others. You never fail to make me laugh, and sometimes, that’s all I need!
